hi i'm colm

i have been knitting ever since my mom forced little homeschooled twelve year old me to go to a knitting camp at my local library. i was by far the youngest participant. thank god she put me in it, because wow is knitting awesome.

for the longest time, people would find out that i knit, and would inevitably ask, "oh! what do you knit?" the only answer i had was rectangles of various sizes, because i dindn't have anyone around me who knit, and i didn't know how to use The Googles to teach myself different techniques/patterns/etc.

i stopped knitting for a while because i got bored of knitting rectangles and infinity scarves (something i stumbled upon by complete accident and couldn't recreate if i tried), and switched to crochet. how did i learn crochet? simply by taking shrooms and unlocking the secrets of the stitches. i stuck with that for a while, until i started crocheting actual garments, and realized that i HAAATE crochet garments. they look like crap. i'm sorry if you like the look of crochet garments, but god do they piss me off.

i realized that i would have to start knitting again. so i dug out the only pair of needles i had kept over the years, an 8mm circular set. i took to tiktok and youtube, and figured out how to knit tubes WITHOUT twisting the CO row. my god, was that a gamechanger.

from there, it was off to the races. my first knit garment was the Nova Sweater by The Knit Purl Girl on ravelry. a sweater with stranded colorwork for my first real project? hell yeah baybee. that taught me that actually knitting is not that scary, and is also very fun!

since that inaugural sweater, i have taught myself lace, cabling, intarsia, and so much more. if i can do it, so can you.
